Yosemite Institute/WildLink Internship
Position Description
The interagency Sierra Nevada Wilderness
Education Project and the Yosemite Institute have
developed a WildLink Internship for college bound
students. WildLink is an outreach program that brings
high school students from diverse cultures on backpacking
expeditions in Sierra Nevada Wilderness areas. WildLink
also offers on-line curriculum, student journals,
and multi-cultural perspectives on wilderness.
Requirements:

Must be over 18 years old.

Must be college-bound or currently enrolled in
college.

Must be willing to live and work in a remote
setting.

Must have an interest in pursuing a career in
natural resources and/or environmental education

Demonstrated ability to communicate well orally
and in writing
Duties:
The WildLink Intern will assist the WildLink Expedition
Leader and Yosemite Institute Instructor and outreach
staff in a wide variety of tasks. Foremost emphasis
will be on providing the intern with hands-on experience
in experiential teaching techniques. To this end,
the WildLink intern will job-shadow a variety of Yosemite
Institute and WildLink Instructors as they lead student
groups throughout Yosemite National Park.
In addition:

The WildLink Intern will serve as a mentor for
WildLink expedition members by providing a monthly
e-mail newsletter to current and past WildLink expedition
members on different ways to stay involved with
WildLink and Yosemite National Park (i.e. family
weekend, rock climbing with Royal Robbins, job and
internship opportunities, etc.)

The WildLink Intern will provide a weekly electronic
journal of their experience in the Park for chronicling
on the WildLink and Yosemite Institute websites.

Duration and Stipend:
Spring 2003 position: flexible start and end dates
Fall 2003 position: Sept. 15 - December 15
$1,300.00 + housing
