photo: WIldLink students doing GLOBE researchThe Global Learning and Observations for the Benefit of the Environment (GLOBE) program is a worldwide hands-on, primary and secondary school-based education and science program. Currently 814 schools in California are registered as GLOBE participants. Internationally, GLOBE is a partnership between the United States and 100 other countries.

Over a million primary and secondary students in more than 12,000 schools have taken part in the program; there are more than 20,000 GLOBE-trained teachers and those numbers are growing!

On WildLink expeditions, students help collect hydrologic data that is then put on the GLOBE web site. GLOBE data can be used by participating schools and students can create maps and graphs on the free interactive Web site to analyze data sets.

-- Taking scientifically valid measurements in the fields of atmosphere, hydrology, soils, and land cover/phenology
-- Reporting their data through the Internet
-- Collaborating with scientists and other GLOBE students around the world
-- Learning more about their watershed and the connection of wilderness to their hometowns

For Teachers, GLOBE provides assistance through:
-- Training at professional development workshops
-- Teacher's guides, "how-to" videos, and other materials
-- Continuing support from a Help Desk, scientists, and partners
-- Contact with other teachers, students, and scientists worldwide.
