Last
Week we had a group of students from Livingston, California.
The week started off kind of quiet, bu
t
ended up being a great week. We did the West End of the
Valley (El Capitan Meadow) on the first day. Then we went
to Yosemite Falls on Wednesday and hiked up to "Oh
My Gosh Rock." This was my first time at Oh My Gosh
Rock and the view was great. Beautiful.
Thursday
we all got together and did some stream bio monitoring.
Afterwards we came to find that we had done this in an area
that had not been tested before, so our data was very helpful.
Cool stuff. And that night we had a campfire. I think it
went really well. Everybody got up and into it. Didn't seem
afraid of making themselves look silly. They sang and danced
and we all sat around and talked about the week and did
our thank you's.
I
enjoyed myself so much with this group of students. It was
hard to see them go. I miss you guys.
This
week Jocelyn and I started on a research project for the
wildlink website. Once it is finished it will contain information
on some of the wildlife you can find here in Yosemite, such
as mountain lions and bears. This can be accessed by anybody.
So
far we have interviewed two of the people involved in the
bear studies, and a man who has been involved with the mountain
lion research. I'd have to say that we've learned a lot
of interesting information. We were even able to go along
with one of the bear researchers and do some telemetry to
find out where the bears are. So keep and eye out, we still
have a few more interviews and things to take car of for
the website. Hopefully it'll come out well.
