Last week was more of
an office week. Not too exciting I suppose, mostly office
related duties.
Jocelyn and I went to
El Portal on Wednesday to kind of finish up our interviews
for the website. We had a good time talking and interviewing
Wildlife Biologist, Steve Thompson. We were able to get
some good information.
Then
on Thursday there was a get together in the East Auditorium
for "Women's History Month." We were able to see
some beautiful quilts, artwork, beading, baskets, etc. all
created by women. And we listened to some female speakers
talk about their life in Yosemite. It was very interesting.
After that I took off
on a fun-filled three-day weekend to Reno, Nevada with my
boyfriend, where we played around town and went to a freestyle
motocross race for his birthday. It was definitely a good
time. It's nice to get away sometimes.
This week I have been
working with a group of students from Orosi, CA. These eighth
graders were great. An absolutely amazing group of students.
It was another great week for me.
Well, we met up with
the group on Tuesday and went on a hike up the Yosemite
Falls Trail to "Oh My Gosh Rock." It was so great
getting to be with the students and see their reactions
when they saw the falls. But my favorite part of the day
was actually when two of the girls in the group came up
to me to find out about these balls on the branches of the
trees, which ended up being galls. It was so much fun because
I love to tell people things that they don't know, and the
two girls seemed to really get into it.
Then
Wednesday started out as a bad day because when I woke up
I had lost my voice and I was getting sick. But I still
went out with the group. It ended up snowing pretty hard
that day and the students loved it. They made snowmen and
had snowball fights.
We went to Happy Isles
Nature Center and then analyzed the samples inside under
microscopes and stuff. That was amazing getting to see how
much the students really got into dealing with the bugs
and getting the data for us. They did a great job.
Thursday, sadly, was
out last day all together, because the students were leaving
early Friday morning. So, we tried something new and took
them to El Capitan Meadow and had them do some bird watching
and classifying. That went over well. Then we made our way
back towards Curry Village. Meanwhile getting into many
snowball fights along the way. That was tons of fun. And
we ended our day with the spider caves.
Thursday night however
was campfire. Well, there ended up being a little misunderstanding
as to who was running it. And so, nobody showed up and it
was just the students and I. So I invited them over for
ice cream and cookies. That was my good bye to them and
the end of a great week.
