The Yosemite Association
in conjunction with the Central and Southern Sierra Wilderness
Education Project annually awards one lucky high school
student and their teacher/chaperone scholarships to attend
the exclusive Yosemite
Winter Literary Conference!
This
year, interested students and teachers were encouraged to
work together to submit a creative piece consisting of no
more than 250 words expressing the relevance of the Sierra
Nevada to the people of California. The piece needs not
consist of purely written material. A panel of judges from
the Yosemite community chooses the winning piece on the
basis of creativity, enthusiasm, teamwork and quality of
entry.
We
recieved the winning entry from the student-teacher team
of Alicia and Mr. Medefind of Atwater High School. Alicia
and her teachers, Mr. Medefind and Mrs. Aguilar, enjoyed
a week of inspiration and beauty throught this opportunity!
Please
view their
creative piece expressing the relevance of the Sierra
Nevada to the people of California. Tune in for correspondance
from Alicia,
Mr. Medefind, and a second teacher-chaperone from Atwater
High School, Mrs.
Aguilar, to hear their accounts of this inspiring and
magical experience!
