Win
a free trip to the Yosemite Winter Literary Conference
February
24-28, 2002
Are
you creative? Are you inspired by natural beauty? Would
you like to spend time with others that share these interests?
If
you answered yes to any of these questions, then the 2002
Yosemite Winter Literary Conference is for you!
The
Yosemite
Association in conjunction with the Central and Southern
Sierra Wilderness Education Project is giving one lucky
high school student and their teacher/chaperone scholarships
to attend the exclusive Yosemite
Winter Literary Conference.
Interested
students and teachers are encouraged to work together to
submit a creative piece consisting of no more than 250 words
expressing the relevance of the Sierra Nevada to the people
of California. The piece need not consist of purely written
material. A panel of judges from the Yosemite community
will choose the winning piece on the basis of creativity,
enthusiasm, teamwork and quality of the entry.
All
entries must be submitted via the WildLink Website. If you
have a completed entry, please submit
it here. If your entry cannot be sent by the submission
form, then send it via e-mail to Jamie
Leong.
***Deadline
for receipt of all entries: January 31, 2002.

Expedition II: Dec
2-8
10
students from Berkeley High School visited Yosemite
in early December, emerging from the wilderness with lives
truly changed and eyes inexplicably opened. Their journals,
drawings, and pictures, are now available online.
The
next WildLink expedition will be held February 3-8.

Rockclimbing
with
Royal Robbins
January
19
Learn
beginner rockclimbing with climbing legend Royal
Robbins. On Saturday, January 19, students will
have the opportunity to learn from the best at the Stonehenge
Climbing Gym in Modesto. Mr Robbins began climbing in 1950;
he has completed numerous first ascents in Europe and Yosemite,
including routes on Half Dome and El Capitan.
If
seeing Yosemite's granite walls makes you want to climb,
then this is something you won't want to miss! Let
us know if you're interested!
WildLink
Alumni!
Still excited about your expedition? Talk to your
teachers about recruiting WildLink students for this year.
Your stories will encourage new students to come and experience
Yosemite's wilderness for the first time!

Mayra
shares about her WildLink expedition with other Kinsgburg
High School students during a September 2001 recruiting
session. Three students from Kingsburg joined us on WildLink
Expedition
I.
We
have WildLink videos available! The National Park
Service has helped us produce videos so that we can tell
others about WildLink. You or some of your expedition-mates
may be on the tape! Email
us if you're interested and we'll send you one by mail.
If
you have any questions about this program, please feel free
to contact Jamie.
