Mandy
 Though
I’ve been working with WildLink students a bit
last year as the outreach coordinator for Yosemite Institute,
I’m happy to announce that I (Mandy Vance) am
now working officially in a full-time, permanent capacity
as the program coordinator for WildLink. I completed
my first expedition just last week, where we had an
amazing trip down Yosemite Creek with a stellar expedition
team from Harbor City and Detroit.
Anyway,
just to tell you a little about me and how I got here:
I grew up and attended college in Mississippi, then
moved on to a few years of work in Yellowstone National
Park in adventure-based education, leading whitewater
boating and backcountry horse trips in and around the
park. I moved to Yosemite three years ago, where I spent
the first two years working as a field science instructor
for Yosemite
Institute (a very important WildLink partner!) Last
year, I started working for YI as the outreach coordinator,
which is where I started getting involved with WildLink.
So lucky me, here I am today!
Just
to give you an idea of what’s to come as a result
of this new position, Barb and I have been dreaming
up all sorts of ideas of what we can do with this great
opportunity!
A few things to look forward to:
Consistency:
I’ll be the person expedition members and teachers
deal with from the beginning, from recruitment to pre-
and post-trip visits, to the expedition itself.
I’ll also make it a priority to help expedition
members with their ambassador plans as much as possible.
Assemblies:
Whenever it’s possible, we’re going to try
to bring Wilderness to larger school groups, in order
to offer this opportunity and idea to as many students
as possible!
New
and Improved Website: I’m going to be putting
lots of energy into making the WildLink website more
interactive and interesting than it already is, including
some streaming video segments and more links for you
to explore! Check

expedition pages!
So
keep checking in on us in the news; we’ve got
a great year in store for WildLink, and are looking
forward to sharing it with you!
