The National Park Service and the US Forest Service invited 10 students and three members of their family to the WildLink Family Weekend in Yosemite National Park! On March 8-10, they met other WildLink alumni to share stories and family recipes, hear about possible career opportunities, learn from park rangers and scientists, and most of all have fun!

We would like to thank the talented and passionate interpretative staff of Yosemite National Park for educating the WildLink family about gophers and sub-niveal spaces, scat songs, conifers, traditional Indian storytelling, the differences between a 'calling' and a job...and much more! We would also like to thank Kong Vang, a representative from the University of California Merced for sharing his personal college experiences and his views on the importance of ongoing education.

But most of all, we want to thank the students and families who came: we hope that you will remember your time here and return often. Our wilderness experiences at WildLink continue to be shaped by your excitement and appreciation for wild places. Thank you for being a part of the WildLink Family!

Expedition III:
Feb 3-8

10 students from Reedley and Tokay High Schools visited the Sierra Nevada in early February. Many of them were exposed to the wonder of wilderness for the first time in their lives: it was an 'experience of a lifetime'. Their journals, drawings, and pictures, are now available online.

The next WildLink expedition will be held April 14-19. Were are looking forward to having students from Merced and West High Schools join us!

Rock Climbing with Royal Robbins

Legendary climber Royal Robbins shared life experiences as well as expertise with WildLink students from Atwater, Sanger, Turlock and Berkeley High Schools on Saturday, January 19. They had the opportunity to learn from the best at the Stonehenge Climbing Gym in Modesto. Mr Robbins began climbing in 1950; he has completed numerous first ascents in Europe and Yosemite, including routes on Half Dome and El Capitan.

Alicia and her teachers, Mr. Medefind and Mrs. Aguilar, enjoyed a week of inspiration and beauty during the exclusive Yosemite Winter Literary Conference! They recieved scholarships to attend through a contest offered by the Yosemite Association and the Sierra Nevada Wilderness Education Project.

Please view their creative piece expressing the relevance of the Sierra Nevada to the people of California. Tune in for correspondance from Alicia, Mr. Medefind, and a second teacher-chaperone from Atwater High School, Mrs. Aguilar, to hear their accounts of this inspiring and magical experience!
