Expeditions
V
and VI
Survivors
and troopers to the end, WildLink Expeditions V
and VI completed their successive
trips from April 16-21, 2001. The elements were against them from
Day 1 of the backpacking portion of the trip as they encountered
seemingly endless rain after they set up their tents. The rain continued
for the duration of the trip and was then followed by hail, snow,
and thunderstorms. However, both groups of students from the four
schools achieved their goal.
WildLink
Expedition V consisted of 12 students from West and Woodlake
High Schools. They were the final expeditioners to hike to Hite's
Cove to collect the vital GLOBE and archaeological data there. They
spent 4 days and 3 nights in the old gold mining town.
WildLink
Expedition VI consisted of 11 students from Sanger and Turlock
High Schools. They were pioneers for WildLink at the Hetch Hetchy
Dam, as they hiked seven miles from there to Rancheria Flat. They
spend 3 days and 2 nights camping in the backcountry and the final
night in a cabin, due to inclement weather.
The
Yosemite Institute for Expeditions V and VI were Lena and Kim respectively.
Their outdoor expertise helped the students make the best of bad
weather conditions. Thank you Expedition V and VI for keeping a
positive attitude throughout the trip! You are our heroes!

WildLink Evaluation Weekend
As
we approach the end of our first year, we are interested in receiving
feedback from our students and teachers about our program. On the
weekend of May 19-20, WildLink is hosting a teacher evaluation session
in Yosemite to discuss the effectiveness of the website as a teaching
tool, the expeditions, and other aspects of the program.
We
are interested in hearing any ideas as to how to strengthen our
program in order to make it better for the students and teachers.
If you are a WildLink teacher and are planning on attending, please
contact Barb Miranda
as soon as possible. Teachers can each bring one WildLink student
to the evaluation as we would like to hear their comments as well!

our Campfire
We
here at WildLink are pleased to announce a new feature to the
WildLink website. We have established online discussion boards in
the campfire section of the website, for students and the general
public. As of now, both campfire chats are secure and require registration.
Please register yourself for the campfire
and start chatting with your peers!

Expedition VII
WildLink
Expedition VII, our final expedition of the school year,
will take place from June 3-8, 2001. Students are travelling from
the Detroit Metropolitan Community Center in Detroit, Michigan and
the other students will be from Atwater High School. Students will
stay in Curry Village for their first 2 nights and will be in the
backcountry for the following 4 days and 3 nights. At this time
we are looking into the best option as to the location, due to the
recent opening of the Tioga Pass.
