WildLink Teacher Workshop

a wilderness weekend for teachers -- IN YOSEMITE!

On June 7-9th, our wonderful WildLink teachers will have the opportunity to:

  • EXPLORE New Lesson Plans developed for WildLink by the National Geographic Society.
  • DISCOVER new ways to integrate WildLink expeditions, curriculum, and hidden histories into your classroom.
  • MEET new and old teaching friends, Sierra Nevada scientists, wilderness managers, and interpreters.

Join us to be a part of the new and improved WildLink.

WildLink 2001-2002

Expedition IV:
April 14-19

6 students from West High School visited the Sierra Nevada in April, witnessing the magic of winter melting into spring. Writing poetry, sketching wildflowers, learning to pitch tents, making s'mores and avoiding poison oak, this journey is an experience that they will always remember. Their journals, drawings, and pictures, are now available online.

The next WildLink expedition will be held May 26-31. We are looking forward to having students from the Atwater High School, Detroit Metropolitan Community Center, and Owens Valley High School join us!

The National Park Service and the US Forest n Service invited 10 students and three members of their family to the WildLink Family Weekend in Yosemite National Park! On March 8-10, they met other WildLink alumni to share stories and family recipes, hear about possible career opportunities, learn from park rangers and scientists, and most of all have fun!

We would like to thank the talented and passionate interpretative staff of Yosemite National Park for educating the WildLink family about gophers and sub-niveal spaces, scat songs, conifers, traditional Indian storytelling, the differences between a 'calling' and a job...and much more! We would also like to thank Kong Vang, a representative from the University of California Merced for sharing his personal college experiences and his views on the importance of ongoing education.

But most of all, we want to thank the students and families who came: we hope that you will remember your time here and return often. Our wilderness experiences at WildLink continue to be shaped by your excitement and appreciation for wild places. Thank you for being a part of the WildLink Family!
