Expedition I members
present their trip at banquet
Acting their role as ambassadors to the WildLink Program,
Patricia and Alejandra from Expedition I recently presented
their trip at the Generation Green Cal-Expo banquet. The banquet
was held on October 9, just a few days after they had hiked
out of the wilderness in Sequoia National Park. The two WildLink
alumni made posters with pictures of their trip and talked
about their adventures in the snow of the Sierras. WildLink
Intern Umar Abdulah was also present at the banquet.
The
banquet was hosted by Generation Green, an environmental educational
organization within the USDA Forest Service that has ties
to Reedley High School. The banquet was a culmination of the
work that Generation Green students performed at Cal Expo
(Sacramento State Fair from Aug. 15-Sept. 2). Each year 30
high school juniors and sophomores apply to attend this Generation
Green leadership camp where the students interact with the
public and educate both young and old on conservation, natural
resources and fire safety. Each student is able to take home
$750 and some really great memories. In the evening, the students
are required to write in their journals and partake in some
cool leadership activities.
Once
the students come home, the Generation Green staff hosts a
"How to make presentations workshop" where students
learn techniques and proper procedures on how to deliver an
effective speech. They are also given materials to develop
with their group a presentation board that showcases their
own experiences up in Sacramento. This leads up to the finale
where a banquet is organized for the students and parents,
teachers, administrators and Forest Service staff are on hand
to see the kids in action. Congrats to all of the Generation
Green students and to Patricia and Alejandra for sharing their
WildLink experiences.
