Meet
Jamie,
the WildLink 2001-2002 Expedition Leader!

Hi!
My name is Jamie Leong, and I'm excited to be working
with the partners, teachers, and students of WildLink while
living in Yosemite National Park! I will be the WildLink
Program Assistant and Expedition Leader for the 2001-2002
school year. I am employed by the
Student
Conservation Association (SCA), as well as
the Forests, Parks, and Field Offices in the Sierra Nevada
to work specifically for this program.
I
am a recent graduate of Cornell University's College of
Agriculture and Life Sciences, located in Ithaca, NY. I
have a Bachelor's of Science degree in Natural Resources,
with an emphasis on aquatic ecology. I'm looking forward
to bringing my experiences into this program and learning
from all of you!

Except
for my four years as a student in Ithaca, I have lived most
of my life in the urban 'wilderness' of New York City. I
love the people, diversity and character of New York, but
I'm also beginning to appreciate the differences that make
California and Yosemite so special. I've learned many lessons
about how to love nature in an intensely urban setting,
and now I'm getting a taste of the how wide and how long,
how high and how deep the majesty of nature really is!!
I
have lived in Yosemite National Park for less than a week,
and it's already been overwhelming and amazing all at the
same time. From driving into Yosemite Valley, to hiking
15 miles to Merced Lake, to visiting communities on Yosemite's
east side, I've witnessed the dynamic relationship of science,
history, and culture that is woven into the fabric of wilderness
and reflected in the WildLink program. In the Ponderosa
Pine I can discover the influence of daily environmental
changes, in the granite face of Half Dome I can read the
story of geological history, and in the T-shaped trail blazes
of the Buffalo soldiers I can shape my experiences here
with those who have come before.
And
I haven't even met the people of WildLink yet! I am now
preparing for the first expedition of the season and I truly
look forward to working with all of you who are involved
with this program! I have heard great things about how WildLink
has grown in the past year, and I'm eager to be a part of
its continued development. It is my hope that WildLink will
become more relevant and leave a lasting impression for
its participants in the future!

you have any questions about this program, please feel free
to contact me.
