The Sequoia Field Institute (SFI) is a department of the Sequoia Natural History Association (SNHA). SNHA is a non-profit membership organization dedicated to supporting education, interpretation, research, and the natural and historic preservation of Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks and surrounding public lands. The Association is committed to enriching the experiences of visitors and promoting public awareness of the significance of National Parks through educational programs, publications and financial support.

SNHA and SFI mission statement:
To enhance understanding and appreciation of Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks and surrounding public lands.

We believe that there is a never-ending flow of people who need to be exposed to the values of the National Park Service. That the more people are exposed and educated about the natural world, the more they will appreciate it and realize the necessity to protect it. That no matter how much an expert someone becomes on our Parks, that person can learn more, appreciate more, and further support the Parks' protection. If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a trip to a natural area is beyond measure.

Through understanding, appreciation; through appreciation protection.

The SFI is responsible for running a variety of natural history seminar courses, special educational programs, school programs, and the Beetle Rock Education Center.

Over the years we have given youth without any experience in our Parks a moment they will never forget. We have given privileged youth a chance to slow down and appreciate what it is the Parks can be for them. We have brought Park staff and dedicated amateur naturalists to a new level of sophistication. We have given many the adventure of a lifetime. We support Wildlink because it is exactly what we started out wanting to do (educating central valley youth about the Park). When we are done with an expedition we walk away with that I've made a difference feeling.
