Who?
On
May 26, 2002, 11 students from Atwater High School,
Detroit Metropolitan Community Center, and Owens
Valley High School arrived in Curry Village!
EXPEDITION
V ran from May 26-31, 2002. Students stayed in Curry village
for two nights before their 3 day, 2 night backpacking trip
at Illilouette Creek. They hiked from Mono Meadow and followed
the Panorama Trail out to Glacier Point, completing 11 miles
in 3 days. During the trip they:
- met
new people from diverse backgrounds and different high schools
- explored
the hidden story of Sierra Nevada's Buffalo
Solders with Interpretive Park Ranger Shelton
Johnson
- conducted
stream macroinvertebrate and habitat surveys, providing
data for the Resource Management Division of Yosemite National
Park
- collected
hydrology data for the GLOBE program on the tributaries
feeding into Illilouette Creek
- learned
how to backpack using Leave No Trace principles
