My
favorite way to hike is alone. When I'm by myself in the wild
nature can respond to me and I to it and the relationship is
pure, and the only thing breaking up the gentle hussssssh and
soft gurlgle of the streams are my footsteps, which I try to
make light. A bee is not a villain waiting to sting an unsuspecting
child, but an essential part of the ecosystem busily pollinating
the wildflowers so that after winter blankets this riverside
with sleet and snow and sheets of ice, the wildflowers may bloom
again.

Rounds
I
am really pleased that we got to see a marmot after I had been
explaining to everyone about them all weekend.
I'd
like to compliment Ricardo, Wendy, and Alejandra for their eagerness
to learn how to build a camp fire.
The
high point of the weekend for me was seeing the excitement in
many of the kids when we climbed Moro Rock.
