On
October 13, 2006 Stephanie Strickland and Chris Miles of the
Sequoia Natural History Association’s WildLink program
had the pleasure of meeting ten students and two chaperones
from Reedly and Orange Cove High Schools for the first expedition
of the 2006- 2007 SEKI WildLink season. They spent four beautiful
days exploring Sequoia National Park along the Twin Lakes trail.
Though
the first part of the trail over Cahoon Gap was challenging,
they were rewarded with the amazing beauty of Cahoon Meadow
and came face to face with deer grazing on the side of the trail.
A day was spent studying maps, aquatic insects, and the sounds
of nature surrounded by the splendor of Twin Lakes. One of the
many highlights of the trip was the solo hike back to camp after
the day at Twin Lakes. Everyone enjoyed the opportunity to observe
nature without distraction, and many felt empowered by the experience.
Evening time allowed for discussion of Wilderness and playing
games around the camp fire near Clover Creek.
Thank
you to everyone who made this trip possible. It was an adventure
that won't be forgotten.
