Petit
Pinson and Stephanie Strickland of the Sequoia Natural History
Association's SEKI WildLink program had the privilege of spending
three days with six students and two chaperones from Reedly
High School's Generation Green club. Higher than normal water
levels in creeks and the still-lingering low snow made Redwood
Canyon in Kings Canyon National Park the perfect setting for
this EDventure. We traveled low enough to avoid snow, crossed
a few creeks with the help of fallen giant sequoias, visited
the Hart tree, and saw the dogwood trees in full bloom. We had
two days of glorious weather and woke to an enormous thunderstorm
on the third day. Rather than spend the day in our tents, we
chose to hike out. This allowed us the opportunity to visit
the General Sherman tree and the Giant Forest Museum to learn
more about the giants we had just been sleeping with. Thanks
go out to Fabian Garcia, the Generation Green Coordinator,
and all who helped to organize this trip.
