12.2.02
Camp Journal
The reason I came to Yosemite was
because I want to experience what it is like camping. My
goals for this whole week are to find out as much as I can
about the environment I am living in like trees, birds etc.
Most of the things that I am afraid of out here is basically
everything except the squirrels and birds.
Another reason I came to Yosemite
was to get to know new people and experience hiking in the
mountains. Another thing I think most people came to get
away from their families cause that's another reason I came
I needed some time alone. So far it's pretty good. I just
want to remember this cause Yosemite is a beautiful place
to be instead of just seeing it in pictures - come explore
Mother Nature.
Imagine what
it would be like to live as the Native Americans first did.
12.3.02
Camp Journal
How I think the natives lived was
food but then again it may not have been food cause the
way they lived probably wasn't very easy cause they had
to kill animals to make their clothes, build their houses,
and eat, and use for blankets. It would probably be cool
to invent your own stuff like they found clay and a lot
of other stuff. For women it was probably hard cause they
had to cook, clean, watch the kids.
They probably made all the dishes.
But if I was a native way, way back, I think I would have
liked it cause I'm outdoors just livin' the life.
You should love this experience cause
most people want to get this opportunity like you did. Enjoy
Mother Nature and Yosemite, the most beautiful National
Park.

It is an established
fact that people of European-American descent are more likely
to use wilderness areas. Why do you think this is? Does your
family use wilderness areas. If no, why not? If so, how?
12.4.02
Cause maybe their like, into it and probably used to it and
the other ethnic groups are like used to the city or whatever
and don't want to try it. My family never been hiking cause
they are not into that kind of stuff or maybe they experienced
it with their families and it is fun and I want to do it over
and over again (OR maybe they like adventure and exploring
and seeing new things not the same).
12.4.02
Like two days ago we all got nick names from the forest. Mine
is still mousey, Jesus (wood chomper), Anthony (chickaree),
John (woodpecker), Javier (thumper), Edward (grizzly), Kristen
(harren), Jocelyn (badger), Umar (black bear) and its like
really cool. We hiked about 15 miles but on the way they made
it pretty fun. Well out of words except I hug, I love, I kiss.
Mousey's out like cliz.
p.s. everyday has been fun and cold.
I want to remember...
12.5.02
The thing I want to remember is when I first got on the bus
to come to Yosemite and how the ride with 5 guys was. I wasn't
to remember when I first arrived here how beautiful the site
was. I really think Yosemite is a very beautiful place to
live, visit, hike and camp at. I want to remember everybody:
Umar, Kristin, Jocelyn, Jesus, Anthony, Javier and big Ed.
I want to remember Half Dome, North Dome, Yosemite Falls,
fire water fall, the lost arrowhead. I want to remember all
the fun games I played with the guys. I want to remember how
our camp leaders made us work together as a team to get through
problems. I want to remember how fun Yosemite is. Jocelyn's
birthday December 6.
