Now
that you've experienced wilderness, what do you think about
it? What did you think of wilderness before you visited it?
This land is so beautiful, though I’ve been here before
I’m still in awe. I have seen nature’s beauty before,
you see that is my only escape. It is my love and is the only
place I feel real, a world of a slower pace where man is not
the omnipresent god. Man does not exist but instead is a different
kind of deity, not the constant watcher but the blind man with
just a few herons attached. He is a child who does not realize
beautiful but this beauty is above that strange enough to clear
through mist covered eyes and teach the child.
This is my home, my true home, a place
to indulge in nature’s good looks, a place to hear the
vent sounds on the earth, and see what the house is really made
of.

Now
that you’ve learned about the history of Hite’s
Cove, imagine what life would have been like in the gold rush
era. How do you think they viewed wilderness back then?
It would have been dangerous, not a place
to bring your family.
