WATER

I was in desperate need of water,
my tongue stuck to my throat, there was no sweat left. Caught in a storm we were out ten days longer than planned. We still had a pitch to go the top and no water. Looking down 3000 feet all I could think about was water, how essential it was to life, how life evolved and how it had helped shape the rock I was climbing.

First water had eroded the valley, the river of ice had squared if off flattening the rock, Finally melting and dammed by its own morraine, it formed a lake. 10,00 years ago I could have made a half mile swan dive to my salvation.

As the cool water we found on top loosens my throat I think of the basic natural miracle and awesome power that is water.
